{"id":1075,"date":"2005-11-14T12:54:00","date_gmt":"2005-11-14T12:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ni0l.com\/?p=1075"},"modified":"2005-11-14T12:54:00","modified_gmt":"2005-11-14T12:54:00","slug":"auroral-propagation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.n0zb.com\/index.php\/2005\/11\/14\/auroral-propagation\/","title":{"rendered":"Auroral Propagation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I thought this was interesting:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hamtestonline.com\/images\/AmateurRadio\/AURORA18.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The aurora borealis (northern lights) and aurora australis (southern lights) are created by the ionization of the E region of the ionosphere by streams of charged particles from the sun interacting with the Earth&#8217;s magnetic field.<\/p>\n<p>The aurora does more than just make pretty lights in the sky; it can bend radio waves back to the earth as auroral propagation.<\/p>\n<p>Since the aurora borealis occurs over northern Canada, two stations in the continental U.S. must each point their antennas to the north to use this mode.<\/p>\n<p>With aurora there is a great deal of signal flutter.  Phone tends to get garbled.
